SINOPSIS Episódio 4:

 

Johnny (Hans Matheson), se siente cada vez más aislado así como la verdad sobre su identidad se extiende como un reguero de pólvora por toda la ciudad; Su familia quería que él se fuera, sus amigos lo rehuyen porque se sienten engañados y Coates (Clarke Peters) ahora lo ve como un rival. Incluso Annie (Jessica Raine) mantiene las distancias con él. Después de que George (Sam Bottomley) los viera juntos, ella se ha mantenido lejos de él, en un intento de reconciliarse con su hijo.

Al no haber podido convencer a George para que vuelva a la casa, Annie decide tomar un rumbo diferente. Jericó es ahora su casa y además es un lugar de oportunidades. Ella decide ampliar su negocio y montar una cantina y de ese modo, espera ganar a su hijo de vuelta.

Sin embargo, las ambiciones empresariales de Annie crean tensión entre ella y Coates. Poco a poco, él se ha asegurado el control supremo de la ciudad y, como con todos los otros negocios, exige una parte de la recaudación de Annie. Pero ella no lo está consintiendo y busca una manera de eludir sus "impuestos". A pesar de no disfrutar siendo desafiado, existe una determinación en Annie sobre la que Coates no puede inculcar respeto.

Charles (Daniel Rigby) por su parte, puede llegar a perderlo todo. El dinero se ha agotado y se enfrenta a la ruina financiera. Gran parte de la frustración, el dolor y la terquedad de Isabella (Jeany Speark), le impiden incluso tomar en cuenta la oferta de Johnny para ayudar. Charles no quiere tener nada que ver con Johnny y está decidido a encontrar otra solución. Al enterarse de que Sorsby (David Westhead), un rico predicador metodista está en la ciudad, Charles se dedica a cortejarle como un inversor potencial. Sorsby está dispuesto a invertir, pero con una condición: que Charles limpir la ciudad. A los ojos de Sorsby, Jericho es un antro de perdición.

Mientras Charles continúa con sus intentos inoportunos e ingenuos para limpiar Jericó, Annie descubre una fea y peligrosa verdad acerca de l nuevo inversor de Charles. Dándose cuenta de que la ley no está interesada en lo que sucede en una ciudad de peones, Annie toma el asunto en sus propias manos, pero al hacerlo ella misma se pone en peligro.

Charles se enfrenta a un dilema. Si defiende a Annie, perderá a Sorsby como inversionista y el viaducto y la ciudad se enfrentarán a una ruina segura, pero la alternativa es dejarla a la misericordia de Sorsby. Johnny, por otra parte, sabe dónde están sus lealtades, pero la pregunta es, si llegará a tiempo.

 

 

SYNOPSIS Episode 4:

 

Johnny (Hans Matheson) feels increasingly isolated as the truth about his identity spreads like wildfire throughout the town; his family want him gone, his friends shun him because they feel deceived and Coates (Clarke Peters) now sees him as a rival. Even Annie (Jessica Raine) is keeping her distance. After George (Sam Bottomley) saw them together she’s kept away from him in an attempt to reconcile with her son.

 

Having failed to persuade George to move home Annie decides to take a different tack. Jericho is now her home plus it’s a place of opportunity. She decides to expand her business and set up a canteen and in doing so she hopes to win her son back. 

 

However Annie’s business ambitions creates tension between her and Coates. Bit by bit he has secured supreme control of the town and, as with all the other businesses, demands a cut of Annie’s takings. But she is having none of it and seeks a way to circumvent his ‘taxes’. Despite not enjoying being challenged, there is a determination about Annie that Coates cannot help respect.

 

Charles (Daniel Rigby) meanwhile stands to lose everything. The money has run out and he is facing financial ruin. Much to Isabella’s (Jeany Speark) frustration, hurt and stubbornness prevent him from even considering Johnny’s offer of help. Charles wants nothing to do with Johnny and is determined to find another solution. On learning that Sorsby (David Westhead), a wealthy Methodist preacher is in town, Charles sets about courting him as a potential investor. Sorsby is keen to invest but on one condition: that Charles clean up the town. In Sorsby’s eyes Jericho is a den of iniquity. 

 

While Charles continues with his unwelcome and naïve attempts to clean up Jericho ANNIE discovers an ugly and dangerous truth about Charles’ new investor. Realising that the law is not interested in the goings on in a navvy town, Annie takes matters into her own hands but in doing so puts herself in danger. 

 

Charles is faced with a conundrum. If he defends Annie he will lose Sorsby as an investor and the viaduct and the town will face certain ruin but the alternative is to leave her to Sorsby’s mercy.  Johnny on the other hand knows where his loyalties lie but the question is whether he will get there on time.
